The PGA EuroPro Tour visited Cumberwell Park for the fourth consecutive year from Monday 26th June – Friday 30th June and yet again it proved to be another hugely successful event with a large amount of praise from the Players and PGA EuroPro Tour officials.

The course was in fantastic condition all week and the greens received high praise from players and officials.

PRO AM
The pre tournament Pro Am was played on Monday 26th June where 52 teams of members and sponsors competed over the Red and Yellow courses (the biggest Pro Am on the EuroPro tour during 2017) and had a fabulous day with the amateurs thoroughly enjoying there game with a EuroPro Professional.
The warm and benign conditions meant scoring was very low and the team from Gems Solutions scored a superb 98 points to win the Pro Am. The Professional individual title went to Daniel Owen with a 64 closely followed by our very own Will Brown with a 65.

TOURNAMENT
Another superb tournament of low scoring and lots of birdies lead to it needing another play-off to decide our champion, both Neil Raymond and John Henry birded the 18th (the 1st play off hole) so it was back down the 18th again before Neil birdied the hole and took the title and winner’s cheque for £10,000.

A big thank you must go to all of our members who volunteered throughout the week ball spotting, scoring and car parking! – Without these volunteers the event would not be the success it was, so a big thank you!

Thanks also to GRENKE for their support of the event for a 3rd consecutive year. Gary Standen from Grenke was at the Prize Presentation Ceremony to present the trophy to winner.

The PGA EuroPro Tour visited Cumberwell Park for the third consecutive year from Monday 20th June – Friday 24th June and yet again it proved to be another hugely successful event with a large amount of praise from the Players and PGA EuroPro Tour officials.

Despite the recent wet weather the players and the PGA EuroPro Tour commented on the superb condition of the course and commended the efforts of Matt James and his team of Green Keepers for their efforts throughout the week.

PRO AM
The pre tournament Pro Am was played on Monday 20th June and was a huge success, members and sponsors formed 56 teams (the biggest Pro Am on the tour during 2016) had a fabulous day with the amateurs thoroughly enjoying there game with a EuroPro Professional.
The morning rain and afternoon wind made scoring extremely tricky and the best Pro score came from late starter Mark Young with a 67 (-7), pipping our very own Steve Surry who shot a 68 (-3).

TOURNAMENT
The tournament got underway in damp conditions but it soon became evident that birdies were the order of the day, our own Pro Steve Surry again found some good form during the week opening the event with a round of 64 (-7) which was only behind the leader on a day of very low scoring when more than 50 players shot in the 60’s
The 2nd day again proved to be a good day for scoring and cut line for the top 50 players moved to -3 towards the end of the day. Rounds of 66 and 65 from Nicholas Garland saw him take a 1 shot lead over former European Tour Pro Stephen Dodd.

The final day saw blustery conditions and a number of players moving up and down the leaderboard – the leaders got to -14 before dropping back and with the clubhouse lead by Adam Hodkinson of -13 (with a back 9 of just 29 shots) it was left to Stephen Dodd to hole a snaking 35 foot putt on the last to force a play off for another dramatic finish – he duly delivered and went on to par the 1st play off hole and take the title.

Below is a quote from Daniel Godding, Director of Operations at the HotelPlanner.com PGA EuroPro Tour

“Our first visit to Cumberwell Park last summer was a resounding success. The course was in great condition, the players were enthused by the test, and the support of Cumberwell’s members and local golf fans was outstanding.

“I was at the course recently and it’s clear the green staff, Ali, and his team have outdone themselves this year. We’re all looking forward to an exciting tournament this week.”

In what could have been a fairy tale story our very own Pro Steve Surry come so close to taking the title losing by just 1 shot finishing on 9 under par, behind winner Marcus Armitage. Another of our home Pros Laurie Canter finished tied 4th on 5 under par so a great week for Team Cumberwell

We are proud to announce that we will be hosting a PGA EuroPro Tour event during 2014 from 16th – 20th June. We are alongside some great venues the tour has chosen this year.

PGA EUROPRO TOUR LAUNCHES BEST EVER SCHEDULE

The UK’s leading golf tour is set for its best ever season after the PGA EuroPro Tour launched its greatest line-up of courses to date.

European golf’s third-tier tour will visit some of the best courses across England, Scotland and Ireland in 2014 and in a Ryder Cup year starts in style at a former Ryder Cup host venue – the Brabazon at The Belfry, from April 15-17.

As part of a new strategic partnership with De Vere, the tour will also bring Europe’s best young golfers to The Carrick on Loch Lomond (July 9-11) and Slaley Hall (August 13-15).

After starting at The Belfry the tour returns to Montrose Golf Links. The historic course made a successful debut on the PGA EuroPro Tour in 2013 and will again welcome the tour to Scotland’s east coast from April 29-May 1.

Longhirst Hall stages event number three from May 21-23, and for the first time the tour will play on the Dawson Course at the Northumberland venue.

The tour then heads to long-standing host Burhill (May 29-31), where the New Course is often praised as one of the best on tour.

Event five sees a return to KK Downing’s The Astbury in Shropshire from June 11-13. The course earned rave reviews from players after making its EuroPro debut last season.

From Shropshire the tour travels to Wiltshire for a maiden appearance at Cumberwell Park, described as one of southern England’s best new courses. The tournament will take place from June 18-20. The short trip to Frilford Heath’s Blue Course in Oxfordshire follows from June 25-27.

The tour stays in Scotland after its week at The Carrick to play at Royal Burgess – The Royal Burgess Golfing Society of Edinburgh from July 16-18.

The final event of July sees a trip to Ireland and the third consecutive visit to the stunning and popular Concra Wood in Castleblayney from July 23-25.

Moor Allerton was rated as one of 2013’s best new events and the tour returns to the Leeds club from August 6-8, before heading to Northumberland to play Slaley Hall’s Priestman Course.

Last year’s Tour Championship hosts Prince’s stages event number 13 from August 19-21 on their Shores and Dunes course, before the tour heads to The Oxfordshire from August 27-29.

The regular season concludes back in Scotland, where Mar Hall will host the tour for a third successive year following which the top 60 on the Order of Merit will be invited to play the Tour Championship.

PGA EuroPro Tour Director of Operations Daniel Godding said: “I am thrilled with the 15 courses we have lined up for this summer’s Tour. We have courses with a great pedigree of holding major tournaments on the European Tour and the Ryder Cup, as well as some of the best new courses the UK and Ireland have to offer.”

A two-hour highlights package from every event will be broadcast on Sky Sports HD four times within two weeks of the tournament, and will later be available on the tour’s YouTube channel.

Details of the 2014 Tour Championship will be announced in the spring. Entries for the 2014 PGA EuroPro Tour Qualifying School have now opened.

Qualifying School takes place over two stages, with players choosing from De Vere Slaley Hall, Formby Hall, Woldingham and The Players Club for their 36-hole first stage before successful golfers progress to second stage, with 54 holes played over the Red and Blue Courses at Frilford Heath.
